What to expect

Here’s a brief outline of what you can expect from the removal procedure to give you an idea of what’s involved.

Consultation & planning

You will first meet with Mr Khan to discuss your goals, medical history and implant details. Together, you will explore your options, from simple removal to combination with a lift or fat transfer, and agree on a personalised plan.

Preparing for surgery

Before your procedure, you will have an anaesthetic pre-assessment to ensure you are as fit as possible for a general anaesthetic. It is also good practice to have had a mammogram before surgery if you are over the age of 40.

The procedure

Surgery is usually under general anaesthetic and takes two to three hours. Any previous incisions are often re-used to minimise new scarring. If needed, scar tissue is removed and drains may be placed to help healing.

Recovery in hospital

Most patients will have an overnight stay after the procedure so we can monitor your immediate recovery. When it’s time to leave the hospital, we will send you home with pain relief and clear aftercare instructions.

Healing at home

Slight soreness in the first few days is to be expected after implant removal. All the dressings are shower proof so you can shower, as normal, from the next day after surgery. For a smooth healing experience, wear your supportive bra day and night for six weeks, and ease back into activities gradually.

Follow-up & results

You’ll see Mr Khan and the nursing team for dressing changes and progress checks during your recovery period. Most people return to normal activities within six weeks, with results continuing to settle over the following months.
