Breast augmentation

Your procedure will be performed under a general anaesthetic, to ensure the maximum comfort, by a highly trained anaesthetist. This will be combined with local anaesthetic administration before you wake up to ensure that you are immediately comfortable and pain free. Simple painkillers are often all that is required after surgery but if something stronger is needed this will be supplied to you before you go home.

Small incisions are made in carefully planned locations to suit your anatomy and chosen implant. These may be placed beneath the breast crease (inframammary), around the lower edge of the areola (periareolar) or within the armpit (transaxillary), which leaves no scar on the breast itself.

Once the incisions are made, your surgeon will carefully create a space for the implants. These can be placed either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or partially beneath the chest muscle (dual plane). The best option for you will be discussed prior to surgery and chosen based on your anatomy, the implant size and what will give you the most natural, comfortable result.

Mr Khan carefully places the selected breast implants into the pockets created earlier using techniques designed to reduce the risk of implant infection.

After the implants are correctly positioned, the incisions are safely closed using dissolving sutures. Drains are rarely used for this procedure.

After surgery, you’ll spend a short time in recovery before going back to your private room on the ward. Mr Khan will provide clear aftercare instructions, including taking medication, wearing a supportive bra, avoiding strenuous activity, and attending follow-up appointments.
